Godolphin has enjoyed a favourable record with globetrotters contesting Munich's G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis – Bayerisches Zuchtrennen, with recent editions falling the way of Benbatl (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Barney Roy (GB) (Excelebration {Ire}). Team Blue, who also annexed 2001's running with Kutub (Ire) (In The Wings {GB}), another globetrotter, struck gold once more with Nations Pride (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}–Important Time {Ire}, by Oasis Dream {GB}), who downed this term's G1 Deutsches Derby hero Fantastic Moon (Ger) (Sea The Moon {GB}) in Sunday's latest renewal of the 10-furlong feature.
Last term's GI Saratoga Derby Invitational hero, returning off a break after running third in Meydan's Mar. 25 G1 Dubai Turf when last seen, was swiftly into stride from the outside box and led passing the judge first time. In the clear and under a firm hold as the field raced in single file for the most part, the 9-5 second favourite was asked to stretch approaching the quarter-mile marker and kept on powerfully under mild coaxing in the closing stages to easily assert superiority by three lengths from Fantastic Moon. Consistent yardstick Skalleti (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}) was the same margin further adrift in third.
“He's obviously a very good horse, but he hadn't run for a while and had a bit of a break after Dubai,” said winning rider William Buick. “This race was a nice opportunity for him, he's a 2000-metre specialist and he had to be good to concede that amount of weight to a very good German Derby winner. I love Munich, it's a great track and it's very fair. I walked the course with [assistant trainer] Alex [Merriam] beforehand and the track has a lovely covering of grass. It's a very nice place to run a very nice horse.”
Trainer Charlie Appleby, who added to his 2020 success with Barney Roy, commented, “I'm delighted he's been able to get a Group 1 win to go alongside his Grade I win from Saratoga. He's a very solid mile-and-a-quarter horse and William [Buick] gave him a great ride. We were confident going into the race, although we were having to concede a lot of weight to the German Derby winner. He's done it well and, going forward, he's going to be a horse that we'll campaign internationally as he's got the experience of doing so. There's no immediate targets, but he's put another Group 1 on the board I'm delighted for the team.”

Nations Pride, one of his sire's 23 elite-level winners, is the third foal thrown by Listed Kolner Stutenpreis victrix Important Time (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), herself the leading performer produced by G1 Prix de l'Opera heroine Satwa Queen (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}). Satwa Queen, who is also the second dam of Group 1 winners Militarize (NZ) (Dundeel {NZ}) and Lucky Vega (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), is a half-sister to G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud victor Spadoun (Fr) (Kaldoun {Fr}) and Listed Prix Roland de Chambure victrix Anbella (Fr) (Common Grounds {GB}). Anbella, in turn, is the dam of Listed Dragon S. winner Gussy Mac (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). The April-foaled bay, whose family also features GSW G1 2000 Guineas runner-up Wichita (Ire) (No Nay Never) and GI Manhattan H. hero Desert Blanc (GB) (Desert Style {Ire}), is full to a yearling filly and kin to the unraced 2-year-old filly Crystal Of Time (Ire) (Dark Angel Ire}) and a weanling colt by Ghaiyyath (Ire).
